Last night we met Mattis, a two year old Belgian Malinois, who is part of the two-dog K9 officer team of the Minnetonka Police Department.
| Mattis arrived from the Czech Republic in 2021 and underwent rigorous training on patrolling, aprehending suspects and article search, which makes the most of Mattis' incredibly powerful nose. |

Officer Erik Finnvik and Mattis go everywhere together, including on their days off. They are truly a team. Officer Finnvik told us he can take something as small as a washer, throw it into a gym or field and Mattis will have no problem finding it in no time just using his sense of smell. He also told us about Mattis' fellow K9 officer who chased a suspect into a swamp recently and went so far in to catch the person that both dog and suspect had to be airlifted out by helicopter!
